Catch Us at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival
The CSO Gospel Choir presented African American Sacred Songs III as part of the Piccolo Spoleto festival on May 28th and May 29th, 2010, at St. Matthews Church in downtown Charleston.
We were excited to present a wide variety of musical styles within one program. The focus of the program was the contribution and impact of African American Music upon the various styles of sacred music.
This eclectic concert presented music from several genres – blues, classical, spirituals, and of course traditional and contemporary gospel music. The musical program ranged from traditional classical selections from Mozart and Handel, traditional spirituals, selections from Duke Ellington’s Sacred Songs, and of course, contemporary gospel music from Timothy Wright, Kirk Franklin, and other gospel greats.
